Name: Riku
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Occupation: Keyblader
Side: Light
Weapon: Keyblade
Family: (None Cannon)
Character Personality:
Riku is the most responsible of the three heroes from Destiny Islands. He tends to act a bit older than he is, considering he's only a year older than Sora, and still treats both Sora and Kairi as kids, possibly even his own siblings, protecting them from things that he doesn't think they need to be involved in. He's the most solid and stoic of our zaney Keyblade cast and despite Sora's many experiences with the Keyblade, Riku always manages to at least appear like he knows more and is a little stronger. But Riku admits that he is glad to have Sora as a friend.
Character History:
Riku's life on Destiny Islands was pretty laid back. In fact, it was boring. Given the idea by Kairi to go and visit new worlds beyond their safe little haven, Riku convinces Sora and Kairi to help him prepare for a journey. Their plans are cut short when a mysterious storm appears and obliterates their home, scattering the heroes and their friends to distant stars. Technically, Riku got what he wanted, but his victory seemed hollow when he began to feel betrayed by Sora and began turning to the darkness that was fueled by that feeling. Riku became so engulfed by the darkness that he was no longer himself and became possessed by an entity that called himself Ansem.
Though Ansem had been defeated, Riku still could feel his presence in his heart. Locked behind the Door to the Darkness, he separated from King Mickey, and started out his own way. He was afraid to put his friends in harms way again, and so struck out to figure out what to do to stop the darkness from continuing on his own. During this time he had his first run ins with DiZ and Organization XIII. Seeing that he was not strong enough as he was, he set out to do one last thing to help Sora.
Riku fully accepted the darkness that called itself Ansem in his heart and embraced the power of darkness once again, this time trying to control it as his own power under his own will. Doing this changed his outward appearance to that of the false Ansem, Xenahort's Heartless. Working to put together Sora's memories again, Riku had to fight and defeat Roxas, which was finally possible in his new form. DiZ then took the defeated Roxas and hid him away in a false Twilight Town while Namine reconnected Sora's memories. Roxas also had to rejoin with Sora in order to wake him up again.
During the final confrontation with Organization XIII in The World that Never Was, Riku appeared to help Kairi, who had been taken prisoner to convince Sora to kill more Heartless. Kairi saw through Riku's new form and was able to accept Riku as her friend again. She later showed Sora how to see through Riku's outside into his heart and they were all finally reunited. Riku was still ashamed of what he'd become, and resisted being recognized, but in the end he knew his friends would still need him, so he followed Sora up to the top of the castle, helping to protect Kairi as they faced the organization and the hordes of heartless that were amassing, being called by Kingdom Hearts. During a freak accident, DiZ, the real Ansem the Wise, used a machine to try to capture Kingdom Hearts the same way he'd captured Roxas in the false Twilight Town. During the attempt, the machine exploded, damaging Kingdom Hearts and somehow altering Riku back to how he had been before, giving him a second chance without Xenahort's Heartless within him.
After teaming up with Sora and using both their Keyblades to finish off Xenahort's "remnants", Riku found that he was exhausted and injured. Back in a place that was actually rather familiar to him, he and Sora came to the conclusion that they would be stuck here, but Riku told Sora he didn't mind. Riku had accepted from the beginning that he would never be with the others again, and was willing to endure a little darkness so that they would be safe in the light. Sora agreed, before finding a bottle with a message from Kairi. It gave them hope that they were still connected and there was a way still back home, and they followed that hope back to their islands.
Character's Physical Description:
Quotes: (Not required.)
Roleplaying Sample:
Riku relaxed slightly at the idea that Sora wasn't going to fight the idea of him tagging along. He was thinking of Kairi too. Worrying however wasn't going to help them much.
"...well we won't have to worry about heartless..." he thought of the fact that Kairi's heart held no darkness and therefore wouldn't attract them. "And the Organization is gone. If we strike at the core of what's happening, we should be able to end what's going on quick enough to protect her and our island."
He summoned his Keyblade to reassure himself that it would still come. The Way to the Dawn still responded to his call, willingly, if not joyfully, resonating with his heart's beat. Clutching the blade he held it up in the final rays of sun on the island.
"...Lets do this together. As quickly as possible." He turned his gaze to Sora without turning his head. "That's the best way to keep her safe."
